Ray is a graduate of the Pacific Northwest College of Art. But, he will be the first to tell you his best schooling took place stream side with a fly rod in his hand. That’s where he learned to appreciate the beauty of fish in their natural environment. That's where he developed his passion for river art. His carving studio looks out onto the Deschutes River, a most inspiring location.
He is one of the founding board members of the National Fish Carvers Guild, www.thenfcg.com, an organization dedicated to teaching and advancing the art of fish carving.
There is a peacefulness in executing river art akin to fly fishing. Both require listening to the river, observing its inhabitants and developing a deep appreciation for both.
